’90s Discount Day at Cinema Nova
Every Monday, independent Lygon Street film venue Cinema Nova slashes ticket prices to just $7 before 4pm, or the still-cheap-as-chips $10 after. But to celebrate its 30th birthday, it’s bringing back its old discount day price of just $5 all day, for one day only: August 29.
There’s a mix of new releases and special anniversary titles screening on the day: including Jordan Peele’s Nope, the follow-up to his acclaimed Get Out and Us; Where the Crawdads Sing, based on the bestselling book; Top Gun: Maverick; and movies on Nova’s birthday program of favourites from the last three decades like Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, Call Me By Your Name, Jojo Rabbit and more.
Regular ticket prices are $20.50, so by saving on the ticket you can spend on choc-tops and vino from the cinema bar. The cinema’s birthday celebrations also include a nostalgic exhibition in the foyer that looks back on the last 30 years.
