Adelaide's pizza scene has plenty going for it. There's traditional Italian pizzas, new-school creations and even Middle Eastern pizzas regularly seen on the table. You can try the retro brick-oven pizzas, or pop into a pizzeria with an innovative high-speed oven to receive your slice within five minutes of ordering. Here are our favourites in Adelaide and surrounds.

Blue Velvet Artisan Pizzeria, Pastry and Dessert Lab

Restaurant

Italian-born husband-and-wife team Paolo Rosina and Ilenia Scuderi bring traditional (and not-so traditional) pizza and pastries to Henley Beach Road. The Pastry Lab, which serves a bounty of vegan-friendly treats, is well worth its own visit.

70 Henley Beach Road, Mile End

Etica

Restaurant

One of Adelaide's best traditional Neapolitan pizzerias, and everything is made with ethically-sourced produce. Pizzas are the focus here, but there's a tight selection of pastas and antipasti, too.

125 Gilles Street, Adelaide

Pizza e Mozzarella Bar

Restaurant

Forget fryers and pans. These Southern Italian dishes are cooked solely in brick ovens.

33 Pirie Street, Adelaide

Chicco Palms

Restaurant

A California-inspired pizza bar serving Italo-American classics. The pizzas here are undeniably great, but it's the atmosphere that will really keep you coming back.

437 Henley Beach Road, Brooklyn Park

Pizzateca

Restaurant

“Oztalian” pizza and local wines to match. This is destination pizza: it's well worth planning a trip to the Adelaide Hills for this spot alone.

319 Chalk Hill Road, McLaren Vale

Sunny's Pizza

Restaurant

You'll ask yourself the following when you enter Sunny's: is this a pizza place, that just happens to feel like an absolute belter of a house party? Or is this a party bar that just so happens to have fantastic pizzas?

17 Solomon Street, Adelaide

Anchovy Bandit

Restaurant

This Prospect Road pizzeria has a freewheeling Italian menu that's not bound by tradition. Come for wood-fired pizzas, house-made pasta, a killer vitello tonnato and a lengthy list of alchoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

96 Prospect Road, Prospect

Antica Pizzeria Hyde Park

Restaurant

Real-deal Neapolitan pizzas and metre-long pies. And they're more than just a gimmick, too – they're seriously good, and an ideal option if you're booking for a larger group (or an ambitious small group).

144B King William Road, Hyde Park

Amalfi Pizzeria Ristorante

Restaurant

The menu hasn’t changed in over two decades – no one wants it to. You can find nearly every dish in the Southern Italian culinary canon here, but special marks go to the pizza.

29 Frome Street, Adelaide

RoccoPizza

Restaurant

The pizzas here are made using sourdough bases, and they’re informed by the principles of the Mediterranean diet.

336 Findon Road, Kidman Park

Pan & Vine

Restaurant

A pizza and wine bar serving “old-school” pies, rocky-road calzone and $12 Negronis all day every day

3 58 King William Street, Kent Town

Where the Mediterranean meets the Middle East. Starters hew towards the Middle East, while the wood oven in the corner delivers pizzas and house-made pita bread.

289 Halifax Street, Adelaide

Stem

Restaurant

After a winery-hop through McLaren Vale, kick back with a wood oven pizza.

13 High Street, Willunga

One Sneaky Cheetah

Restaurant

This fun-and-fast spot is the third venue by the Pizzateca crew. Expect all the staples of your neighbourhood pizzeria (ham and pineapple, supreme and a smoky barbeque chicken), plus a few you won't find elsewhere. Also, canned wines, spritzes and house lager by Big Shed.

243 South Road, Ridleyton

Est Pizzeria

Restaurant

Squeeze in for wood oven pizzas and a palate-challenging drink.
