The site that housed Monopole for a pioneering decade, then Ria Pizza & Wine for a couple more years, has been transformed into Entoca Ponti. The Italian wine bar and diner is from the team behind another Potts Point staple: Bistro Rex. And while it’s a departure from the French-inspired fare at its sister restaurant, co-owners Josh Dunne, Peter Curcuruto, Cristian Veterani and Leigh McDivitt have described Enoteca Ponti as a natural next step for them. “We wanted something that was fun and resonated well with Potts Point,” Dunne tells Broadsheet.
Designed and built by Ar Huis, the venue’s name and decor pay homage to renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti, whose sophisticated style is reflected throughout the venue in the form of geometric tiles, patinated finishes and tobacco-stained ceilings.
Enoteca Ponti’s rustic menu pulls from the coastal Italian upbringing of head chef Aldo Farroni (ex-Shell House). Marrying traditional favourites with the unconventional, highlights include lasagne spring rolls with fermented-chilli aioli, oscietra caviar and mascarpone pizzetta, pappardelle tossed in a hearty wild boar ragu, salt-baked whole John Dory, and limoncello sorbet or a playful crème brûlée cannoli for dessert.

“Potts Point is like a little village and we want to make sure we’re dynamic and accessible to the community,” says Dunne. “The bar will be kept open for walk-ins, where people can come in, have a glass of wine with us and watch the world go by.”
