Rockpool Bar & Grill
There are few Australian restaurant names more iconic than Rockpool Bar & Grill. First opened in Melbourne at Crown Casino in 2006, it's since expanded to Sydney and now Perth, with all the hallmarks of the Melbourne original – right down to the opulent space within Crown’s west coast casino.
The space is vast and neutrally toned, made intimate by considered lighting. A candle-lit walkway sets the tone upon entry, and also doubles as a window into the impressive beef dry-ageing rooms. To the right is the bar, but if you want the main event, book a spot in the dining room in view of the grand, open kitchen led by Dan Masters, a former sous chef at Rockpool Sydney.
The menu revolves around the kitchen’s incredible wood-fired grill and charcoal oven. This being a steakhouse, the sprawling list takes in various different cuts, most of it nine-plus marble-score Blackmore Wagyu and grain-fed Cape Grim Beef. Pair your selection with a range of sides such as mac‘n’cheese with speck, roasted hasselbacks and broccolini with romesco.
While steak is duly the star of the show, the rest of the menu shouldn’t be ignored. From raw to cooked, cold to hot, choosing from the extensive menu of salads, seafood and pasta is a daunting prospect. The wine list is just as formidable, with more than 1500 bottles priced between $65 and $11,000.
