It was a chaotic start to Splendour in the Grass this year, with festival-goers waiting up to 15 hours to enter the festival campsite and hundreds sleeping in their cars on Thursday night. It’s all due to the onslaught of rain in the Northern Rivers region causing a muddy mess.

In an official statement, Splendour in the Grass organisers said: “In the interest of public safety and in consultation with all relevant emergency services, we have decided to err on the side of caution and cancel performances on the main stages only … Day patrons are asked not to attend to the festival today while we work on repairs.”

Moshtix will be in contact with those who had day tickets “in the coming week” for anyone seeking a refund.

Broadsheet Access members get special tables at busy restaurants, tickets to exclusive events and discounts on food, coffee, brand offers and more.

Saturday and Sunday’s performances are going ahead as planned, so far.

It’s the first time Splendour has attempted to go ahead since 2019 and 50,000 people were expected to join the festival.

Those already at the festival took to social media with pretty funny reactions to the mud, camping chaos and selected wet-weather ’fits.
